Guest speaker was talented photographer Tamara Lackey [pronounced Tam-ara. Rhymes with camera. funny huh?]. So at first I was kinda bummed that I had to travel ALL the way out there. Right after I signed up for the Boston workshop, Jesh opened up one up in SF. Which would've been quite a bit closer. But after all this...I think I was exactly where I was supposed to be in the grand scheme of things. For the record, if you're looking for a lot of hands on and "1/80 f/4 iso200" type of instruction...then this isn't your kinda workshop. A fellow attendee described this workshop as "having nothing to do with photography, and at the same time, having everything to do with this photography". deep huh? I know. This workshop was wayy deep...and I don't think I've ever felt more safe or open before. I came to this workshop with the hopes of finding myself and coming to a better understanding just how Jesh gets what he gets. If you look at his images, they carry such a power and connection to them....such love. And I wanted to learn how to best convey that. I don't want to give away too much of Jesh's workshop....because I feel everyone should attend it. But I will share one thing that I found particularly important at least to me. It stems from the way we interact with people. These days, its so difficult to find someone who is just open and genuine. The problem is that when we approach people....there are two main thoughts. Either we think about what we can get from the other person. Or we think about what the other person wants from us. [Very business-ey...the whole you scratch my back, I scratch yours] Very rarely do we take the time to not judge...and just listen/understand. When we meet someone its so easy to give a pre-programmed response. [You know...the hello how are you doing? What major are you? etc etc] How often do we take the time to delve a bit deeper into getting to know someone. Not wanting anything from them. But wanting to know who they are. When you do, there is this wide open door of openness. But it's so hard. We don't want to deviate from the norm. Being open is vulnerable. Theres so many things that cause us to build up these brick walls to protect ourselves. And sometimes these walls are so thick to prevent stuff from getting in...that our true self can't get out. Sorry if this was a bit too philosophical. Can't help it. Love and knowledge can't be kept to yourself...it has to be shared.

So some pics are in order...The beach outside our studio

This is our wonderful host Brittany of BKB Studios who took such good care of us

My home away from Home.

Mike of Kate Rose Photography

Photographers chimping. haha. They work with the homeless, needy, battered, abandoned...anyone who is in need. Whats amazing is that they're completely funded by donations. They don't take a penny from the government. But anyways...people get sponsored to sleep over there for an evening to raise money and awareness. I was asked to photograph this event for them....and jumped at the opportunity. Putting photography to good use for once. =P Ended up sleeping the night over there as well. really really cold. I wore 2 shirts, a long sleeve, sweatshirt and windbreaker and huddled in a sleeping bag. I have a new appreciation on how it feels to be homeless....and its totally taken me out of my comfort zone.

This is my pastor. No, it doesn't have muy sexy doctors like mc. dreamy. No they don't speak in american accents on the show then switch-a-roo to a british accent like the guy on house. Dramatic? no not really. But hands down one of the most creative and enjoyable shows around. Its so well written. I was watching some episodes earlier today...and I think you guys will get a kick out of this episode where they did it all as a musical.
So its been quite a while since I last posted. Alot of stuff changed.
First...I moved. Yes, after almost half a decade [majority of the
college years] of living at the Ferber house, I've finally moved on.
I'm now living in PQ. It's alot closer to work...and the best part is
this. I have my own bathroom to store all my girlie facial and body
products. And I love the fact that I can get up at whatever time...and
not have to worry about someone beating me into the shower. Priceless.

So this new place does come with the addition of a special friend. Her
name is Tina....she belongs to one of my roomies. Tina has a knack for
sneaking into my room undetected and scaring the crap out of me.

Don't let her calm demeanor fool you. she's a killing machine.

cute thing.

Also been doing quite a bit of shooting and editing. I'm super swamped right now. I think i'm relatively fast....but I guess just not fast enough. hahaha. Be on the lookout for some new stuff. Finally, even though I missed most of the wildflower bloom...I did manage to snap just a couple that were around me. [Not fine art by any means...but I like them ]. These were snapped with a rented 105 af-D. This lens has been around for close to 10 years...and can still hold its own. Pretty wicked sharp if you ask me. Kinda amazing.

In other news....I really want to throw away my engineering degree and do something photo related. *sigghhh* decisions decisions.

anyways, its late. Almost feels like another lifetime. Lately other endeavors have taken up my time...and my little taylor has just kinda been sitting in the corner in its case. Lonely. Cold. Unloved. Tonight I just didn't feel like doing anything...so I decided to just play a bit. I'm a bit rusty...ok fine, REALLY rusty. There's alot of history to this guitar. I've had it since freshmen year of college. It's been to numerous praise nights, worship sets and jam sessions. Good and bad times. Tossed into my trunk. Banged against mic stands. Strings snapped during sets. man-Handled and woman-handled by junior highers. There are only a couple of scratches to show for all that abuse. What I love about playing guitar is that no matter how long you haven't played...all you need to do is just sit down and just play. You basically get to pick up where you left off. Kinda like old friends that you don't see that often. Everyone lives separate lives...but when you guys do meet up, things just click and it's like old times.
Womens Mission Bowl

What is mission bowl you ask? Once a year some of the churches in SD get together for this big flag football tournament. The proceeds go to missions. So anyways, this weekend was the womens tournament. The men's are going to have theirs later on this month. I've never really photographed sports before...but really enjoyed it. I could see myself totally getting into it. hahaa. It's really fast paced. But yeah, WAYY fun. and it was good being able to run into some ppl who you haven't seen in a while.

Congrats ladies. You were awesome!

Jc

Friday, January 18, 2008

So if you look at the timestamp, you're probably wondering why the hell i'm up at 1:40am updating xanga. I'm not sleepy. Honest. I just finished editing my set from the event coverage I did for Navy at the Navy vs. Utah bowl game. Sadly, I can't post 'em...so you'll just have to believe me when I say they were sweettt. I love the sense of accomplishment.

So this saturday, I get to shoot for SR. Excited doesn't begin do describe it. Everytime I do, I feel like my brain gets overloaded cuz I'm constantly watching his every move and the reasons for it. So much good learnage. hhaah. Ohh...and he sent me a headshot. that he secretly snapped...I have no idea when. [thank goodness cuz I could never afford to get proper headshots done!] Scott always gives me a hard time for my xnaga profile picture. How I'll never be taken seriously if I have my dorky bird picture. haha. But I've grown rather attached to this xanga profile pic! Anyways, I think its pretty cool. I turned it sepia toned just because Scott's coloring was too cutting edge for me. I'm not as edgy as he is...yet =P.

Thanks scott! Have a great weekend everyone. happy friday =)

jc
